5 Common Personal Branding Mistakes
Avoid at all costs.
AI-generated art of the week.
“Lonesome George was the last known individual of Pinta Island Tortoise species”
Building a personal brand isn't just about having a large number of followers.
I always say that.
An irrelevant follower means absolutely nothing in terms of your goals.
Who wants that?
An irrelevant follower means absolutely nothing in terms of your goals.
Here are the mistakes:
1. Using LinkedIn Pods
Irrelevant engagement, connections, and followers might give wrong signals to the algorithm.
And LinkedIn might end up showing your content to irrelevant people.
And if people understand that you’re doing this,
They will just stay away.
Partner up with some supportive people if necessary.
2. Connecting with everyone
Similarly, you might give the wrong message to the algorithm.
Your profile might be shown to the wrong people as a suggestion.
Classic but focus on quality, not quantity.
Connect with people who are in your ICP or;
With the people who are followed by your ICP.
3. “ME ME ME “ posts
If your posts only talk about you, you might lose your audience's interest.
If you do this too often, you have to be careful.
It is equal to promoting yourself too often.
Share insights, tips, and stories that can help others.
4. “I’m here notice me” content
Some posts are just like attention traps. It kills your brand image.
It might make you look desperate for attention.
To build a quality audience and image:
You have to earn attention by providing value.
5. Irrelevant Selfies
I’ll keep saying it. Your audience wants value, not just faces.
Selfies are fine if they add value or context to your brand.
It helps with engagement, you might get more likes and impressions.
But it should not be the goal.
I recommend using videos instead of selfies.
